Dr Ngahuia Murphy

Ngāti Manawa, Ngāti Ruapani ki Waikaremoana, Te Arawa

Dr. Ngahuia Murphy is a Ngāti Manawa, Ngāti Ruapani ki Waikaremoana, Te Arawa mother, artist, researcher, storyteller, poet and author of the books Te Awa Atua: Menstruation in the Pre-Colonial Māori World, Waiwhero: A Celebration of Womanhood, and her newest publication, Intuitive Ritual: A Mana Wahine Source Book.  Her research and books have been instrumental in reclaiming Māori matrilineal ritual practices and relationships with the Atua Wāhine and have been cited widely through multiple mediums including national and international theatre works, art installations, short-films, spoken word performances, symposiums, plays and short stories. Ngahuia’s work is always underpinned by the imperatives of facilitating healing, decolonisation, mana motuhake and the resurgence of the divine feminine to restore balance.
