Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Tahu-Ngāti Whaoa

Hēmi Kelly (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Tahu-Ngāti Whaoa) is a Māori language teacher, writer, and licensed translator.

He authored the popular books A Māori Word A Day and A Māori Phrase A Day. His translation work includes Witi Ihimaera’s novella Sleeps Standing (Moetū), Paulo Coelho’s novel The Alchemist (Te Ruānuku), and Brian Friel’s play Translations (Ngā Whakamāoritanga).

Hēmi is the Director of Tautika Ltd, a Māori language consultancy that collaborates with various organisations to develop, facilitate, and implement Māori language and culture programmes. Additionally, he is the creator of the Everyday Māori online learning platforms and the Everyday Māori podcast, which provide accessible Māori language education to a broad audience.
